Web Portal Services for FrontPage and Expression Sites

Generally speaking Web portals provide a  access to a variety of different content and possibly services. A main portal page,  is particularly helpful as an area to act as a  start and return point for those who are interested in the subject matter provided. Portal content is dynamically managed through databases, application windows, and sometimes cookies. Some of the functions that might be found in a portal include forums, calendars, discussion groups, announcements, downloads, reports, searches, email and address books, and access to news, weather, maps, and shopping. Through the use of databases and cookies, Web portals offer advantages over static html pages because they can offer user-specific, customized views.

It is designed to use distributed applications, different numbers and types of middleware and hardware to provide services from a number of different sources. In addition, business portals are designed to share collaboration in workplaces." *

There are a number of ways that we can incorporate a portal into your site. Some of your considerations are:

  • What type of portal application do you prefer?
  • What type of server are you currently hosted on (Windows or Unix)..and what types of applications does it support?
  • How much... if any... customization would you want to the portal?
  • Would you want the portal hosted on your current server, or would you like them hosted with us?

We can help you with all of the above statements and more. Feel free to look through some of the portal packages available. You will notice in some cases that  the base prices for the portal applications themselves may even be free. We do not add a markup to those applications base prices. The fees that we charge are for installations, debugging, and customizations if needed. Additional charges would also apply if you would like to host these applications on our servers.

After the portal applications are installed, we then turn everything over to you. You will have administrator rights to all portal functions. (This can be accessed from your web browser) You then develop your portal in whatever manner you like. Our expertise is in the setting up of the software for these portals. Your role will be in maintaining and developing them based on your site viewers.
